St Joseph Affordable Homes will provide trade apprenticeships in a range of construction areas, gained through an in-house apprenticeship and life-coaching scheme.
The social and affordable home building programs of CatholicCare Tasmania and Centacare Evolve Housing provide the building projects for St Joseph Affordable Homes.
Below is an overview of projects as of December 2023:
This allows regular intakes of apprentices to support the construction of more than 100 homes every year. All homes constructed by St Joseph Affordable Homes have an energy rating of at least 7 stars, ensuring comfort year round as well as reduced energy and living costs.
All works including water connection is now completed. Handover to the client has been finalised this month
Specialised housing for those aged over 55. 8 units in total, including a triple and a double conjoined. Currently framing first 4 with remaining slabs to be poured before Christmas.
Occupancy on 35 units. Final units trusses going up and remainder ranging from roofs to final fit outs.
17 Frames now complete with 4 units plastered. Final bulk excavations underway.
This small commercial project is a new centre for the Kentish community that will be used as a daycare facility and host a range of community programs. When completed, this build will have a large commercial kitchen, stylish joinery features, and high quality finish. Due for completion and handover in late January, the building is at lock-up stage with brickwork complete. Plaster is finished, floor coverings in, and painting is partially complete.
Handover completed to the owner after a short media event.
All works complete. Final inspections underway ready for handover in early November.

This project in Herdsmans Cove is a prototype for a future 25 units in Southern Tasmania to be built by the Hobart Womens Shelter. It is unique for its special design features such as raked ceilings and rounded windows. All internal ply and fit out complete. External brickwork and cladding complete with boundary brick wall and decks underway.
Fit out, Cladding and eaves on site. Render commenced.
Footings and slab have been poured with frame arriving on site.
Rough-In completed. Plastering last units and painters working on soffit. Works on the high decks underway. Excavators levelling out back yards and driveways. 4 x Kitchen installs this week. All units to be fit out by the end of the month.
6 new dwellings on a block with existing Rectory in the middle. All are to lock up with brickwork complete. One of the units has a granite foundation stone laid within brickwork for commemoration by the local church. During this project, the rectory will also have a small renovation, including new kitchen and bathroom.
This project has been in construction since March 2021. It has consisted of 4 stages and a total of 49 dwellings are on this site. All single level dwellings are LHA Silver standard and the site has been built community wellbeing at the forefront. This project has significantly contributed in helping house Tasmanians in need.
